PLANNING YOUR PORTFOLIO FOR UNIVERSITY

If you are interested in pursuing visual or architectural arts at a university or college, it is important to begin planning your portfolio while still in high school (from grade 9). Private portfolio-preparation lessons are available at my studio for students who are working towards building a strong and competitive application.

Before registration, each student is asked to book an interview. This meeting provides an opportunity to discuss goals, review current skills, and create a personalized learning plan. Portfolio lessons are carefully tailored to meet the needs of each individual, taking into account their skill level, artistic interests, and future educational objectives.

Most post-secondary institutions require applicants to submit between ten and fifteen pieces of original artwork. Through this program, students will not only complete a strong body of work, but also learn how to present their portfolio in the most professional and compelling way.

In this class, you will:

  • Create 10 to 15 finished artworks while exploring a variety of drawing and painting techniques.
  • Learn strategies for organizing and presenting your portfolio.
  • Gain practical tips on preparing for entrance interviews, if required by your chosen institution.
  • Receive guidance on producing high-quality digital images of your work for submission.

These lessons are designed to build both artistic skill and confidence, ensuring that each student is well-prepared to showcase their creativity and dedication when applying to post-secondary art programs.

My portfolio preparation program has a proven track record of success, with a 100% acceptance rate at well-known institutions including the University of British Columbia (UBC), Emily Carr University of Art + Design, the University of Toronto, Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU), Capilano University, and Simon Fraser University (SFU).

Portfolio Highlights
Here are examples of artworks created by students preparing for post-secondary applications. These works illustrate the diversity of techniques explored in class—from still life and creative drawing to painting and mixed media—while highlighting the personal growth and individuality of each student.
